Policy for Future Generations: What We Owe the Young—and What We're Giving Them
The nicotine policies being written today will shape the lives of people not yet born. The obligations to future generations—to provide accurate information, to preserve access to harm reduction, to eliminate combustible cigarettes—are not being met.
The policies we write today—the PMTA requirements, the flavor restrictions, the communication strategies—will determine what nicotine products are available to our children and grandchildren. **Our obligations to future generations: to eliminate combustible cigarettes (the most harmful product), to preserve access to reduced-risk alternatives (for those who choose to use nicotine), and to provide accurate information about relative risk. We are meeting none of these obligations adequately.**
